Research Fellowship Open to UGA Graduate Students at Historic Coastal Georgia Site

A unique opportunity to perform research at one of the most ecologically and historically significant sites in Georgia is available to University of Georgia graduate students and faculty, hosted by the Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe (CREW), an interdisciplinary research site administered by the UGA Libraries.

Nominations are now open for the Wormsloe Fellowship, which provides support and funding for master’s or doctoral student research on a wide variety of topics related to the human and natural history of the coastal Georgia property. Funding is provided by the UGA Graduate School and the Wormsloe Foundation.  

“I am delighted that the Wormsloe Foundation and the Graduate School have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting graduate student research through the Wormsloe Fellowship. I look forward to welcoming the new Wormsloe Fellows to the Center for Research and Education at Wormsloe later this year,” said Mary Socci, CREW Director. 

For more than a decade, CREW has supported the work of students and faculty who investigate a host of questions in a broad range of disciplines, including ecology, archaeology, history, geology, landscape architecture, historic preservation, environmental planning. This includes researchers affiliated with the College of Engineering, College of Environment and Design, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences (including the departments of Geography, History and Anthropology, Odum School of Ecology, and Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, as well as the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. 

“The Graduate School is excited to partner with the Wormsloe Foundation to support cutting-edge, interdisciplinary graduate student research at Wormsloe,” said Ron Walcott, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the UGA Graduate School. “Wormsloe Fellows will have a unique opportunity to study in and contribute to the knowledge base about the historic Wormsloe coastal Georgia site.” 

All nominations should be submitted by the department’s graduate coordinator.  The deadline for nominations is March 13, 2025.  Graduate Coordinators have received communications on nominations and eligibility.
