Emily B. Gore, a leader in the field of digital librarianship, has been named associate university librarian of the University of Georgia Libraries. Gore will lead digital collections, data management, scholarly communication, and other initiatives to enhance the research, instruction, and service missions of the Libraries, beginning May 23.
“Emily Gore has a well-deserved national reputation for building innovative digital initiatives and robust strategic partnerships,” said Toby Graham, university librarian and associate provost. “She will be an outstanding addition to our leadership team at the UGA Libraries.”
Gore will contribute to the overall leadership of the Libraries and have direct oversight over several departments, including cataloging, maps and government information, digital humanities, research data management, digital preservation, and the Digital Library of Georgia, a statewide GALILEO initiative based at the Main Library.
Gore joins the organization from her current position as assistant dean for digital initiatives and technology infrastructure at University of Tennessee Libraries. She earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Alabama and previously served as director of content at the Digital Public Library of America, associate dean of libraries for digital scholarship and technology at Florida State University, and head of digital initiatives and information technology at Clemson University.
Gore is active in the library profession, currently serving in elected and/or appointed roles with RightsStatements.org, HathiTrust, the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and Fedora Commons. Over the course of her career, she has been awarded more than $5 million in grant funding.
