Welcome from the University Librarian

Dr. Toby Graham, University Librarian and Associate Provost

Welcome to the University of Georgia Libraries!

Our purpose is to advance the University’s mission by providing the best possible access to recorded knowledge, actively contribute to the success of students and faculty through teaching and research services provided in physical and virtual environments that enhance learning and intellectual creativity, and exemplify the University’s strategic priority to serve the citizens of Georgia and beyond.

The Libraries provide their services at nine locations on the Athens campus, among them the Main Library, Zell B. Miller Learning Center, McBay Science Library, Russell Special Collections Building, and Health Sciences Carnegie Library, which receive more than three million visits per year. They offer extensive hours, including 24 hour operation at the Miller Learning Center.

We provide a vast array of electronic and print resources. A good place to start is our multi-search tool on the Libraries homepage. Librarians are available to help you via our online chat service, email, or by appointment for more in-depth research support.

Our librarians and archivists also welcome the opportunity to advance our commitment to student success through research and information literacy instruction. Our librarians teach about a thousand sessions per year to more than 25,000 student participants helping them to acquire the research skills needed to be successful in their courses and subsequent endeavors.

The UGA Libraries offer distinctive, nationally significant Special Collections Libraries, including the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, and Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. These libraries have a unique role in creating an environment of discovery among our students and the public, including innovative archives-centered courses and engaging public programming and exhibitions.

UGA’s Libraries locations are hubs for technology access, as well. Along with general computing, the Miller Learning Center offers device check-out and media production support. The Main Library is home to the DigiLab providing research data consultations, events, and tools. The McBay Science Library provides a MakerSpace (3-D printing and virtual reality) and an informatics visualization/collaboration space.

Publishing over 60 scholarly and regional titles per year, the University of Georgia Press is a component of the Libraries, as is the distinguished literary magazine, the Georgia Review. We host the Digital Library of Georgia providing a massive free and open online collection on our state’s history and life, and the Russell Library manages the Georgia Capitol Museum in Atlanta. The Libraries also administer UGA’s multi-disciplinary research and experiential learning site at Wormsloe

Please come visit us at one of the UGA Libraries locations or contact a librarian to explore how we can be a beneficial part of your experience at the University of Georgia.
