Georgia Writers Hall of Fame: Sue Monk Kidd

Join the Hargrett Library for the induction of Sue Monk Kidd into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame on Thursday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. in room 271 of the UGA Special Collections Building. Kidd will give a book talk and participate in a Q&A discussion; a light reception will follow. This event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. Email LNessel@uga.edu to RSVP.

Opening Reception: Georgia on my Mind

Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library for an evening of tours, drinks, and hors d'oeuvres to celebrate the opening of "Georgia on my Mind: Finding Belonging in Music History." Dress in your favorite band merch and enjoy live musical performances in the gallery from jazz pianist James Weidman, guitarist Skip Taylor, guitarist John Culwell, and hip hop artist Cassie Chantel. This event is free and open to the public

Family Day: Georgia Music

Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library for an afternoon of family fun highlighting the new exhibit Georgia on My Mind: Finding Belonging in Music History on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Enjoy music classes with Cathy Rumfelt of Allegro Athens that include singing, dancing, movement, and instrument play. Explore the exhibit with a scavenger hunt and immerse yourself in story time in the gallery. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking for off-campus visitors is available at the Hull Street Deck.

Film Screening: Summer of Soul

Directed by Questlove and featuring never-before-seen performances by Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Nina Simone, and more, Summer of Soul tells the story of Black history, culture, music, and fashion in the summer of 1969. Enjoy a free screening of Summer of Soul at Ciné on June 11, 2022, at 2:30 PM during the 22nd annual Hot Corner Celebration and Soul Food Feast. Tickets are available the day of the screening at the Ciné box office and are first come, first served.  

Toddler Tuesday: Sports!

Toddler Tuesday is a new program at UGA Special Collections full of story time, music, and crafts! Join us for enriching activities designed for children ages 1-4 years old. This program is free and open to the public, including free parking offered to visitors in the Hull Street Deck. Seats are limited; email jmb18449@uga.edu to reserve your spot.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the program.
