Katharine Bugbee, Wormsloe Fellow, 2019-2020, is using her time at Wormsloe to pursue a study on the viability of ribbed mussel Geukensia demissa for use in Georgia Living Shoreline projects. This project intends to determine whether the Atlantic Ribbed Mussel (Geukensia demissa) can help to reinforce the upper bank of living shorelines in Georgia by closing the gap between the Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica) and the native Cordgrass Grass, Sporobolus .alterniflorus.
Katharine is expected to graduate from UGA with a Master's in Landscape Architecture in 2020. Her areas of focus include Fluvial Geomorphology, GIS, Landscape Engineering, Landscape Restoration and Sustainable Design. She was the 2019 recipient of the Campus Sustainability Grant for the Oconee Forest Pond Restoration.
