Academic Engagement Department
Welcome to the Academic Engagement Department!
Using a team-based approach, the Academic Engagement Department serves students, faculty, and staff by offering both instructional and disciplinary research support.
Instruction
Our instructional approach focuses on the competencies required to succeed in an academic research environment and the broader complex information ecosystem. Our goal is to integrate information and other literacies (digital, data, and AI) into the UGA curriculum in a sustainable and scalable manner. To support this approach, we aim to:
- Collaborate with instructors to embed and scaffold in-person and online information literacy instruction into classes, eLC, and other learning environments.
- Create tutorials, videos, guides, and other learning objects that will provide multi-model support for students.
- Consult with instructors to craft engaging research assignments that emphasize critical thinking and appraisal of information and promote effective research skills. Toward this end, we offer "teach the teacher” consultations for instructors who want to provide their own library-related instruction.
Please submit an request for instruction support from a librarian in the Academic Engagement Department.
Research Support
Our department is divided into teams specializing in Humanities and Social Sciences and STEM research support. These teams provide one-on-one research and information literacy support, often in tandem with our instructional services. In these consultations, we can assist with the following:
- Refining research topics
- Crafting a search strategy
- Finding literature and supporting evidence, data, and statistics
- Identifying and evaluating sources
- Citation management (Endnote, Refworks)
