Exhibit Opening Reception- "From Farms to Fashion: Unraveling the Need for Sustainable Style"

Join us to celebrate the opening of the Hargrett Library’s newest exhibition From Farms to Fast Fashion: Unraveling the Need for Sustainable Style on Thursday, January 30 from 6:00-8:00PM. The event will include tours of the gallery, a clothing swap hosted by UGA student group Fair Fashion, and light refreshments.  
Attendees interested in participating in the clothing swap can bring clothing, shoes, and other accessories to the Large Event Space (Room 285) during the event. The more you bring, the more you can swap!

Celebrating Jack Davis with Mack Williams

Join the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the UGA Special Collections Libraries for the annual Jack Davis Lecture on Thursday, November 7 at 6:00PM in the auditorium (Room 271) of the UGA Special Collections Building. This year's lecture will feature animator and director Mack Williams, a UGA alum and 2024 Bulldog 100 recipient. A light reception and pop-up exhibition of highlights drawn from the Hargrett Library's Jack Davis Collection will follow the lecture. 

LGBTQ+ Advocacy in the Legal Field: A Panel and Discussion

On November 14th, at 4pm, join the Hargrett Library for a discussion centered around LGBTQ+ advocacy in the legal field with guest panelists Michael Shutt, Nneka Ewulonu, and Patricia Thomas. Moderated by OUTLaw, the guest speakers will discuss their experiences negotiating legal and policy issues that impact LGBTQ+ communities, and the intersection of advocacy and law. A Q&A segment will follow the panel discussion.

Symposium on the Book: "Book Looks"

Eileen Wallace is a Senior Lecturer in Printmaking and Book Arts at the University of Georgia and a former resident artist at Penland School of Craft. She has taught workshops at Penland, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and at other venues across the country. Eileen is a co-director emeritus of the Paper & Book Intensive (PBI) and has been a board member of Hand Papermaking Magazine. She curated the book Masters: Book Arts published by Lark Books in 2011.

Symposium on the Book: "Remediation: Understanding Old Media"

András Kiséry is Associate Professor of English at The City College of New York (CUNY). He has published on early modern textual and political cultures, including _Hamlet’s Moment: Drama and Political Knowledge in Early Modern England_ (OUP, 2016), and the volume he co-edited with Allison Deutermann, _Formal Matters: Reading the Materials of English Renaissance Literature_ (Manchester UP, 2013). He is now writing a book about media and remediation in early modern England. An essay taken from this project just came out in the Summer 2024 issue of _Critical Inquiry_.

Poetry with Wyatt Prunty

Join award winning poet and 2024 Georgia Writers Hall of Fame Honoree Wyatt Prunty for a poetry reading on Tuesday, October 15th at 6:00PM. The reading, which will take place in the 3rd floor reading room of the University of Georgia Main Library, will be followed by a Q&A with the poet and a light reception.

Join us for the 2024 Lillian Smith Book Awards Ceremony, which will be held on October 3rd, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET in the Decatur Library Auditorium. This free event includes remarks from both recipients and a Q&A followed by a book signing. The Lillian Smith Book Awards are sponsored by the Southern Regional Council, University of Georgia Libraries, DeKalb County Public Library/The Georgia Center for the Book, and Piedmont College. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.
