As one of the most influential philanthropists in the United States, Ted Turner has directed considerable resources toward the preservation and protection of the natural world. With an interest in educating future generations about important environmental issues, Turner and executive producer Barbara Pyle launched the animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers in 1990. Broadcast on Turner Network Television (TNT) for six seasons, the show centered on five teenagers who banded together with the help of a superhero to fight a series of Eco-Villains out to destroy planet Earth. Captain Planet taught young people all over the world about the environment and encouraged them to take an active role in taking care of the planet.
This display explores the origins and impact of the Captain Planet series, and the Captain Planet Foundation which continues to create opportunities for members of the global community to make a positive impact for the Earth's future.
